A tribute to the Brandenburg Gate as one of the Symbols of the German reunion 1989/90 - the monument that stood at the center of German reunification as probably no other did. Built between 1789 and 1791 the Brandenburg Gate originally served as Berlin’s city gate. The quadriga, a chariot for the Goddess Victory drawn by four horses, was placed on top of the Brandenburg Gate in 1793. Originally designed as a nude like her ancient models, the propylaeum of the Greek acropolis, public pressure forced sculptor Johann Gottfried Schadow to dress his charioteer in a cloak.
