Edition Overview
Over the centuries, myths and legends have depicted the East Asian dragon in a multitude of forms with numerous different traits. A few dragons have crystallised out of these myths to become the most honoured among their kind. To these noble dragons, deeply rooted in East Asian culture and possessed of great powers, Montblanc dedicates a very special limited edition. The eleventh in the series features the Coiling Dragon. This majestic character winds around the cap and barrel, featuring citrines for its eyes. While its head adorns the Ag 925 sterling silver cap as a raised relief sculpture, its diamond-studded body moulds itself to the barrel as a delicate engraving underneath a translucent colour-gradient lacquer. The gradient, from deep to light yellow, reflects traditional Chinese philosophy, in which yellow symbolises the element of earth. As part of the dragon's earth aspect, it is associated with control over weather and nature. The design is further enriched with fittings made of solid Au 750 signature gold and a citrine set in the cone to match the colour of the dragon’s eyes. A motif of a Chinese pavilion decorates the handcrafted nib made of solid Au 750 gold. It is shown surrounded by water in honour of the mythical Shen (蜃, meaning ‘mirage’), which is another type of dragon. Pavilion structures of this kind serve as places of tranquillity and meditation. The cap top is crowned with the Montblanc emblem in mother-of-pearl, inlaid in black onyx and covered with sapphire glass.
